- ½ cup (125 ml) milk
- 1 teaspoon toddler formula or vanilla Sustagen® powder
- ½ teaspoon LSA mix (linseed, sunflower seeds and almond meal)
- ½ frozen banana
- 1 teaspoon rolled oats
- Place all ingredients into a blender, and blend until there are no lumps of fruit remaining.
- Serve in a glass with a brightly coloured straw.
Health tip: This is a great smoothie for children who are not eating well and need a little nutritional boost. This smoothie contains nuts and seeds when using the LSA mix. For a nut-free option replace the LSA with an extra teaspoon of toddler formula or Sustagen®. If your child can tolerate it, the LSA mix is a great source of protein and essential fatty acids.
Cook’s tip: To make frozen bananas, peel then cut into segments and freeze in a zip lock freezer-safe bag. This is also great with frozen mango. Frozen mango cheeks are sold in large bags in some specialty food stores, otherwise simply make them at home when mangoes are in season. Cut and peel the cheeks, then lie on a flat freezable plastic dish without the pieces touching. When frozen place pieces into a zip lock freezer bag and label with the date. The fruit can be kept for up to 1 year in the freezer.
